SBARC Field Day 2007 Goals and Roles
GOALS
- Have fun!
- Practice and enhance our emergency skills.
- Work together as a team.
ROLES
Field Day Captain
- Mentors all captains, communicates overall FD strategy
- Decide how many transmitters we want / determines Field Day Designation (2A, 3A, etc).
- Communicate planned layout of FD transmitters to all captains
- Plan site location, get necessary approval to use it
Antenna Captain
- Antenna assembly/disassembly training
- Streamline setup -- Coordinate ahead of time with affected station captains
- Schedule rehearsel of assembly/disassembly procedure before FD (club meeting)
- Design antenna layout to minimize RFI (use antenna traps, etc)
Station Captain
- Coordinate setup of antenna(s) for use by their station
- Identify primary and backup transmitters
- Measure SWR -- work with Antenna Captain to resolve issues
- Create "roster" indicating station coverage throughout the event
Power Captain
- Arrange use of Emergency generator and necessary fuel to support Field Day
- Arrange for transportation of equipment
- Communicate scheduled power outages when generator needs to be re-fueled.
- Bring necessary power extension cables to/from generator
Facilities Captain
- Plan for and bring needed number of tables/chairs, tablecloths, etc.
- Have HT radios available (instead of tasking people to run up/down stairs)
Bonus Captain
- Media Publicity (advertise in newspaper)
- Public Information Table
- Alternate Energy (5 QSO's minimum)
- Download W1AW bulletin
- Demonstrations (APRS, ATV, SSTV)
- Site Visitation (Elected gov. official, Law enforcement, Emergency Mgmt)
Food Captain
- Arrange for 3 meals (Lunch, Dinner, Breakfast, and lots of snacks and beverages)
- Bring plastic cups, plastic forks, knives, spoons, napkins
- Get headcount for number of planned participants (try for $20-$25/person cost)
Computer Logging Captain
- Reserve laptops
- Install logging software
- Configure network settings
- Disable screensaver
- Create local admin accounts on each machine
- Install flash drive on server for backups
- Ensure network cable runs sufficient to reach all stations
- Arrange logging training (club meeting)
